Now this is one album that would make any DJ jump with glee while displaying a wide grin on his face. And why not since 12 of DJ Suketu’s finest remix tracks come together in one single album that has been aptly titled ‘Best Of DJ Suketu’. The man who redefined the remix industry along with other remix gurus like DJ Aqueel and DJ Akbar Sami, DJ Suektu’s compilation with programming and arrangements by Hyacinth D’Souza is a great collection for anyone to get hands on.

1) Woh Lamhe (Zeher)

Now it would comes as a massive surprise if someone said that he/she has actually not heard the superb track ‘Woh Lamhe’! Atif’s golden voice is a great beginning for this compilation that has superhit ‘Woh Lamhe’ as a starting point. While the original version was rocking in itself, DJ Suketu’s remix provided just an extra zing that the doctor had ordered. No wonder the song is a must inclusion in majority of compilations that are available on stands today.

2) Aadat (Kalyug)

If ‘Woh Lamhe’ wasn’t good enough, ‘Aadat’ (again by Atif) was just the right follow-up. Coming back to back, the two songs ‘Woh Lamhe’ and ‘Aadat’ get you into the groove right away. Inspite of the number carrying sad undertones, it is to the credit of DJ Suketu who makes the remix version absolutely rocking to make one enjoy the song even today inspite of all these months having passed by.

3) Kya Khoob Lagti Ho (Dharmatama)

Evergreen love duet ‘Kya Khoob Lagti Ho’ from the film Dharmatma is presented in a brand new style by DJ Suketu. He does a great job in retaining the essence of this melodious track while adding on all the modern gadgets he could catch his hands on. Result? This well rendered version by Javed Ali and Manisha is popular amongst Generation X. Rumored to be the costliest ever music video made in India, it has already been seen on telly with Upen Patel and Udita Goswami setting the screen on fire.

4) Bin Tere Sanam (Yaara Dildara)

Javed Ali does it again, this time around in one of the most popular remixes on this side of the 21st century - ‘Bin Tere Sanam’ [Yaara Dildaara].Yet another beautiful song that was sadly ignored for years before the remix genre revived it, it can easily be termed as one single reason to go for the album. A superb remix, it has Nisha Kapadia giving company to Javed and making the number popular all over again.

5) Meri Nazar Hai Tujhpe (The Burning Train)

Backing vocals of Neuman in the beginning is what paves way for this beautiful number from ‘The Burning Train’ to create a great impression. A sweet sounding track that is given a twist by DJ Suketu and Neuman, it has Simran Sachdev giving full justice to the original. It needs some real thinking to pick up an original number soaked in melody and give it a different feel to make it appear as a Lounge track. In this regard the team behind the remix deserves full marks.

6) Baras Ja (Fareb)

‘Fareb’ may have flopped but its song ‘Baras Ja’ was quite a success when released. Sunidhi Chauhan is superb in this item number that was rocking from the word GO! In fact there was a special music video featuring the Shetty sisters [Shilpa and Shetty] to cash in on the popularity that the song gathered in the initial days itself. One still wonders how far the song would have gone if the film would have been a success.

7) Pyar Zindagi Hai (Muqaddar Ka Sikandar)

If Lounge music would have been a popular genre in India in the 70s then even the original version of ‘Pyar Zindagi Hai’ [Muqaddar Ka Sikandar] would have won hands down in being one of the best composed songs belonging to that genre. In 2005, the same song further creates a big impression when sung in husky vocals of Kalpana Patowary. Haunting, mesmerizing, intriguing - that’s how one would best describe the effect that this Lounge version creates. Excellent!

Yaad Aa Rahi Hai (Disco Dancer)

Remember the touching track of pain and remembrance ‘Yaad Aa Raha Hai’ from Mithun da’s ‘Disco Dancer’? A longish rhythm is what precedes this song to create a strong base for the song to build upon it. Javed Ali does a great job in coming with exactly the same rendition as in the original while the assortment of western instruments creates the same haunting appeal as the original managed more than a couple of decades back. This is easily one of the best Lounge tracks in the album.

9) Bombay In My Soul (Bombay)

The genius in A.R.Rehman had come up with a superbly orchestrated ‘Bombay Theme’ years back for Mani Ratnam’s epic ‘Bombay’. DJ Suketu doesn’t let the maestro down with an inspired version titled ‘Bombay In My Soul’ that is much more retro in feel and keeps the mood rocking throughout. Yes, one would enjoy the original anytime in a lonely’n'peaceful evening but if you are having an outing in a lounge, DJ Suketu’s version is always up there in the platter.

10) Tumse Milke (Parinda)

Vivekjyoti and Vijayashankar are heard for the evergreen duet ‘Tumse Milke’ that still makes the heart feel for it whenever it is played. Thankfully DJ Suketu keeps his arrangements at the minimal here rather than going ballistic with his remix and hence maintains the essence of the original. Also the two singers come quite close in their rendition hence making one nod in appreciation while the song is on.

11) Jalta Hai Jiya Mera (Zakhmee)

Vivekjyoti gets to feature in one more song in the album, this time with Anupama Deshpande for company, as the two let their hair down for ‘Jalta Hai Jiya Mera’. A remix version for which a music video too has been made in the past, it isn’t a bad hear but still falls a little short when compared with other superb tracks preceding it in the album.

12) Aatish Theme (Aatish)

Film maker Sanjay Gupta has always been a pioneer as far as the technical aspects of his movies are concerned. Be it his snazzy camera angles, cinematography or the background music [even if it is inspired from Hollywood sources]. In the beginning of his career, he had come up with Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Aatish’ that had some haunting background music. Theme music of the film is given a rocking effect by DJ Suketu in this remix version that is hardcore techno while maintaining the original haunting feel. This is yet another track that carries on the good work in the album and is an additional reason to go for the album. Rocking and a befitting end to the album! Phew !!!
